My mom passed away a year ago yesterday.

I just learned that the home where she was living has been hit big time with new coronavirus cases. They were doing OK up until now, but a couple of aides got the virus and now all bets are off.

It's a very well run and well respected community. They're always on top of all things medical and public health related, but the virus has scored another victory. Most of the residents in the memory care unit where my mom was have gotten the virus.

I can't imagine going through what I did last year in today's climate. It would have been so hard *not* to be with Mom in her last days.

I got to be good friends with a woman whose dad moved there a couple of months before my Mom died. He just tested positive, though he's still asymptomatic.

It's such a helpless feeling to see what people are going through.

I'm sorry, wtg. Anniversaries are hard, and getting the news that the facility's affected by the virus makes this one even worse.

Hugs to you and your family.

From experience the year after is better as you no longer have to confront the 'first birthday, Christmas' etc.

Keep your good memories in the forefront of your mind and share them with family. Celebrate her life!

With best wishes, BeeLady

My Favorite Redhead is having a very hard time this Mothers' Day weekend because she cannot see her mother in assisted living and fears she may not be here next year. For us this is the worst part of the whole ordeal.

Thanks, all.

Mom was almost 95 when she died, I'm the end of the line when it comes to family, and her friends are all gone. Except for Mr wtg, unfortunately there's no one left who knew her with whom I can share memories.

She had dementia, and I came to learn the meaning of the "long goodbye". I think you grieve a little with every change you see in the person you love. You lose a bit of them here and there over a very long time.

I really feel for YFR, Mik. It's people like her that are on my mind so much these days. Please send her my best.
