Kenny, amazing! WTG, I miss and don't miss snow. I like to look at it for a day or so, and then it needs to melt! Part of why we came back to PDX.

So we already have almost a foot of snow, and now the National Weather Service has issued this:

quote:
URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CHICAGO IL
433 PM CST WED JAN 1 2014

ILZ006-014-020645-
/O.UPG.KLOT.WW.Y.0012.000000T0000Z-140102T0000Z/
/O.NEW.KLOT.LE.W.0001.140101T2233Z-140102T2100Z/
/O.UPG.KLOT.LE.A.0003.140102T0600Z-140102T2200Z/
LAKE IL-COOK-
INCLUDING THE CITIES OF...WAUKEGAN...CHICAGO
433 PM CST WED JAN 1 2014

...LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 3 PM CST THURSDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CHICAGO HAS ISSUED A LAKE EFFECT
SNOW WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 3 PM CST THURSDAY. THE
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT. THE LAKE EFFECT
SNOW WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

* TIMING...LAKE EFFECT SNOW SQUALLS ARE EXPECTED TO AFFECT
PORTIONS OF THE WARNING AREA TONIGHT. THE LAKE EFFECT SNOW
SHOWERS ARE THEN EXPECTED TO BECOME BETTER ORGANIZED AND
INCREASE IN INTENSITY BY THURSDAY MORNING FOR AREAS NEAR THE
LAKE. THESE LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE INTO THURSDAY
AFTERNOON BEFORE THE BAND SHIFTS EASTWARD ACROSS NORTHWEST
INDIANA BY THURSDAY EVENING.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...LAKE EFFECT SNOW SQUALLS RESULT IN HIGHLY
VARIABLE ACCUMULATIONS. AS A RESULT...SOME AREAS IN THE WARNING
MAY ONLY GET AN INCH OR TWO OF SNOW...PARTICULARLY ACROSS THE
FAR WESTERN SECTIONS OF OF LAKE AND COOK COUNTIES.
HOWEVER...ISOLATED AREAS NEAR LAKE MICHIGAN COULD RECEIVE AROUND
10 INCHES OF SNOW BEFORE THE SNOW ABATES THURSDAY AFTERNOON.

* IMPACTS...THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR INTENSE SNOW SQUALLS TO
DEVELOP AND AFFECT AREAS NEAR THE LAKE WITH SNOWFALL RATES IN
EXCESS OF TWO INCHES PER HOUR. THIS COULD RESULT IN NEAR ZERO
VISIBILITIES AT TIMES...MAKING TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS.

* OTHER IMPACTS...NORTHEAST WINDS OF 15 TO 25 MPH WILL CREATE
BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW.

The high temps for Monday and Tuesday are projected to be -2, lows of -15. Nothing compared to what some folks here are accustomed to, but for us... HairRaising

We barely got 3 inches of snow here, and no lake-effect snow projected for this far west.

Snow storms. There *are* some good things about them.

Leaving work early. Seeing the world turn white and fluffy beautiful. And getting snowed in with your sweetie.... Wink

It's not the top of a glass of milk or soft ice cream cone. It's a large drift of snow blocking access to my backyard. Gah.
