That lo mein recipe looks like something I want to try!

The paper had a “recipe” on how to construct an enormous 6-foot-long hero sandwich, and I wanted to scale it down for one person. The ingredients sounded so good: marinated artichokes, peppers, red onion, provolone, hard-boiled eggs, tomato, lettuce, oil, vinegar, Mayo (and I’m sure I’m forgetting some things).

So I made it. It was tasty but just too much and too messy. I may try to make my own version with fewer ingredients.

I've been looking at a lot of soup recipes because we've been getting kale pretty regularly in our CSA box. I really like it in soup

Bob's Red Mill seems to have some very interesting soup recipes. I've bookmarked a bunch to try.

Why, no.

I'm 55 and I'm just learning how to cook basic meals. I work slowly in the kitchen. I've never followed a recipe (Ok, I did once for oatmeal).

I have no aptitude for cooking.

I made coconut rice with shrimp and corn from NYTimes tonight. It was pretty good, after I perked it up; before that it was a little bland. Very coconut milky. I added fish sauce, and red bell pepper. Mr. AM liked it. Pretty rich; I think I’d use lite coconut milk next time.

quote:
Originating from Chinese Sichuan cooking, Dandan noodles were named for the carrying pole (aka dan dan) that street vendors used to carry baskets of noodles and sauce. While sometimes served as a soup in China, American versions are usually more saucy than soupy, and often include sesame paste, peanut butter, or tahini, like the recipe below.

I *really* can't wait to try this one - Tuscan Butter Mushrooms. I have an abundance of cherry tomatoes, and baby chard from Farmer John that I'll use instead of the spinach....Just have to buy some mushrooms.

There used to be a chain of restaurants called The Magic Pan ; it was a creperie.

The had a wonderful split pea soup, or as they called it, Potage St Germain.

I found the recipe today online!

https://www.lostdishes.com/magicpan/stgermain.htm

Can't wait to make it.

(the Lost Dishes website is pretty cool.....)

I just got back from Tucson where I got to sample a Sonoran hot dog. It’s so wrong on so many levels but I’m absolutely hooked:

There’s a version with a deep fried bun too.
