PJ, thanks for your sympathy and sharing about your own mom's late life cognitive issues. Also for your family's seder experiences. Imagining what your five minute Haggadah must be like. Ha! I suppose one can indeed mention all the key points in that time and thus fulfill the requirements. Don't know what I'd do without my older son to play "father' throughout (in addition to chiming in for "All's" choruses. This is the first year I noticed our family Haggadah doesn't have the mother saying ANYTHING in Hebrew, while "Father" has loads of Hebrew followed by an English translation. Wonder if I can find a few of Mom's passages in Hebrew for next year. Younger son's primed his little corgi to hunt for the Afikomen. Unfortunately, she doesn't care for matzah. And she balked at the four questions. Well, more exactly, she BARKED them!  Her father did a nice job singing them, though. We all agreed with a variation of the traditional end, that "next year in Boalsburg" will suit us just fine. (Anything but Zoom)

Big Al, thinking of you all doing the same old Seder with your family's Haggadot but with the crucial reader missing. It must be a painful reminder of what Biden repeated many times as he campaigned - about the "empty chair at the table" (only he was referencing COVID deaths). As with so many Jewish festivities (for Hassidim they'd include celebrating their deliberate fecundity) they become an "in your face" to the evil forces who've depleted our numbers and turned into literal kill-joys when it comes to the rejoicing parts of the holidays. Remembering your (and the medias) description of your truly meschlich brother-in-law. Such a terrible loss, relived again and again when his absence is especially felt as at this traditional feast/revival. But you DO carry on, living examples of the part of the seder where many/most recitations pause to commemorate "our sacred dead". Warm wishes to you all!

I’ll have to find the five minute Haggadah. It’s online somewhere. It is, of course, quite tongue-in-cheek. There is also the ten second Haggadah: They tried to kill us. We won. Let’s eat. Of course, today, that’s not feeling so true.
