Jeff got Kim a nice concert size ukulele for Christmas. He also got a toy model for grandson Jack. Kim plays piano well but has never had much luck learning the guitar. Jeff is an accomplished rock band guitarist but doesn’t play by ear. I’m a competent campfire guitar player and nothing more, but I did learn to play ukelele at about 4, baritone uke at about 6, and guitar shortly after. Tonight we busted out both ukes and my guitar.

I damn near started crying. My fondest memory of childhood is the family song nights on Saturday nights. Ukes are easy to pick up and Kim got the hang quickly, Jeff did too, once he got over the fact the chords have different names. Grandson Jack is definitely musical and dances to the music. He has the strumming figured out and sang third harmony on “The Wheels on the Bus”. We also have both dogs sleeping at our feet and a fire (it’s a gas fire but it will do) in the fireplace.

It’s 28 degrees and I couldn’t be happier. ThumbsUp

Ukes are the best. Love playing them. There is a group here, we joined before Covid, but haven’t gone since (singing with a mask on isn’t very fun).

Mrs pj is talking about getting one. Or a banjolele.

Any recommendations?

Get a tenor. Easier to play than the concert or the soprano (longer neck) but same tuning. The banjoleles I’ve played sound too harsh.

I have An Oscar Schmidt OU4.

She bought a Deering Concert banjolele. She watched several videos and decided she wanted more plinky, not plunky, so, not the baritone.

We are eagerly awaiting its arrival.
