AmandaTruly the stuff of nightmares, wtg. It constituted an unintended experiment in extreme human emotional deprivation during the formative years.
I seem to recall a more short-lived one in Victorian orphanages for infants, often cited in the literature. The babies were well nourished and kept clean, but otherwise ignored. Most died, reminding all contemplating them as sad proof that "man does not live by bread alone".
Infinitely tragic.
