Unfortunately I had no time for that.

I guess that is why I am limited to those uber reliable, if somewhat dull, Japanese cars.

Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.

Ah!

What purpose do they serve? I know there has to be something. Mercedes engineers do not do such things just to do them.

Then I have to ask, why did they do away with them on the W210?

Is your wagon a 4Matic?

It looks fantastic!

One should not use the word über and Japanese in the same sentence Jack. ROTFLMAO

They are there so you can pile stuff on the roof without the stuff scratching up the paint. I have put boxes, and stuff up there and tied it down to the side rails and crossbars. I also have a soft cargo bag that we use for camping -- I have a spongy-grippy pad that goes under it. I'll try to find a picture.

I think the rails were an option for all years of wagons -- not sure if the dealer could install them or they had to come from the factory. But if you get a Thule or Yakima box or a "playpen", they have their own crossmembers that can be mounted to the side rails, and the whole thing sits a couple inches above the roof surface.

Heck, I've even brought home 4x8 sheets of plywood tied to the roof rack. I say again, this is the most versatile, functional car I have ever known.

So where's the picture of the two together? We're waiting.

I saw an E320 today. Drool worthy. I couldn't help myself. I had to get out of my car and look at it.

Please do that if you can! That would be great.

The interior of your car is exactly what I was looking at today. It must be nice.
