If you pray, please say a prayer for him.

About two weeks ago, he thought he had norovirus. He was sick for about week, didn't get better, ended up admitted to the hospital a week ago. His primary symptom originally was vomiting and hydration, but all of a sudden, it seemed like everything possible was wrong.

He had sepsis and strep in his blood, his platelet count was dangerously low, he had (still has) a blood clot in his lung, he had (still has?) c-diff. He had a tear or damage in his esophagus. Oh and pneumonia. And probably some other details I'm missing.

They done every blood test, lab test, scan you can imagine but there's never been a clear thing they can point to as the source of the problem. We except that for whatever reason, his auto-immune system has just gone berserk and is attacking itself. And all the treatments they've been doing obviously have not been enough because he's just been getting worse.

Oh and they're not sure that he even had noro, and he never tested positive for covid.

On Friday, they put him on a ventilator (the invasive kind) and by yesterday we thought he was turning a corner in a more positive direction.

But he had a bad night last night and right now they're hooking him up to a heart-lung machine, ECMO or maybe it's VA-ECMO.

I don't want to lose him. Also, his daughter, my niece, is only 12. She needs him. My sister-in-law needs him.

I don't know what to do with myself, so I'm posting this here. Thanks for reading it.

Thank you both.

I don't know what to do with myself. I'm too far away to help with my niece or my sister in law.

I hate it. And I'm terrified.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Is this some form of cytokine storm? Or "just" sepsis (As though that's not hard enough to deal with)? Would really help if they could figure out some causal agent rather than just treating symptoms and hoping for the best.

I don't know, but I will ask my mother about the cytokine storm. I get pretty good info when I get it from my mother, who's there as well, but when I get info from my sister in law, it's a little sparse on details. But I am trying not to bombard her with questions, for obvious reasons!

Yes, this has been my concern from the beginning, it just feels like, what the hell is going on? But I do think the hospital is very good. We actually discussed having him moved but I think it was right not to do that, at least not yet.
