I went down to the town hall to vote. No line, I was the only one voting at the time. One of the ballot questions regards the new zoning ordinance that I helped with last year. I'm not holding my breath, people up here tend to be quite set in their ways and resent any sort of restrictions whatsoever, even though it would be for their benefit.

Town meeting is Saturday but I'm probably going to miss it. I don't want to miss it though, one of the warrant articles is about shutting down recycling at the transfer station. I can't believe it! I wonder who got that on the agenda?

Hoping for the best all around.

I've been following recycling issues for a bit and it appears that the market for recycled material has dried up. Sort all you want but it all ends up in the landfill if no one will buy it.

Maybe this is happening at your transfer station. If you find out what is going on I hope you'll post something about it.

I believe that some materials are still worth recycling, but China has stopped buying plastic, so plastic goes straight to landfills at least half the time.

Thanks for that link.

So it's now more important than ever to reduce our consumption of single-use plastics. We have to change our ways.

Defeated. By a margin of 2 to 1. I'm surprised and I'm not. I'm surprised because we got good and positive feedback at the open houses and public hearings that we held. I'm not surprised because I suspect a lot of the nay votes came from people who didn't attend any of the meetings. I saw a flyer on one of the tables at the town hall yesterday denouncing the new ordinance and it was full of inaccuracies, and definitely sounded like it was written by someone who hadn't attended any of the meetings. Ugh.
