Perhaps the ultimate Zoom Faux-Pas
This one seems to have occurred because of Shabbat laws for observant Jews.

Sounds like this couple just forgot their camera was on during their synagogue's services. Steamy sex on camera for 40 minutes ensued.

What's more, also because of Shabbat laws, no one was able to call them to alert them what was happening.

Just for the record, synagogues only allowed services to be streamed on an emergency basis during COVID. (Observant Jews are forbidden to turn electronic devices on or off over Shabbat.)

The changeover is kind of confused and different synagogues have adopted different practices (This synagogue had ruled it was OK as long as no one turned the controls on or off.* Guess some people are mixed up.)

Anybody ever hear of "Shabbat elevators" which some apartment building have as a plus for their orthodox Jewish residents? They operate automatically, stopping floor by floor during Shabbat. Similar workaround.

I was wondering why it went on for 40 minutes before someone called them…

I'm not at all sure they found out until after Shabbat. Maybe the whole thing just stopped as they were played out - that or the Service was over.

The article says no one COULD call them without violating their own observance of Shabbat.

Don't know if you all caught this detail about the exposé, but I guess we can figure this was a completely unforgettable aspect of that young lady's Bat Mitzvah! Red Face

Doubt many paid nearly as much attention to her "D'var Torah" (sermon).

The hospital my Mom has been in and out of since February has a "Sabbath" elevator that stops on all floors on Saturdays. Yes

Especially complicated in this instance.
If anyone thought this couple was defiling the Sabbath apart from publicizing their private lives, on the contrary.

It so happens, that combining the congregation's joint worship with their own pleasure (only possible because of this unique permission about electronics) was actually a traditional way of celebrating the holy day.
