COVID is all about privilege
quote:
As the symptoms of Covid-19 took hold, President Trump got an infusion of an experimental antibody cocktail and was whisked by helicopter to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. When his oxygen levels dipped, he was quickly put on a steroid normally given to patients with severe cases of the disease. At every step of the way, the president has had a team of expert physicians carefully monitoring his care.

That experience is a world away from the stressful waiting game most patients wade through after a positive test.

They are told to stay home and monitor their symptoms. If they do become severely ill, there is only a remote chance they will get access to the antibody cocktail, which was developed by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and is being tested in clinical trials. The company said Monday that the president was among fewer than 10 people who have gotten access to the drug through a compassionate use program.

“Covid is all about privilege. The more privilege you have, the more you can ignore some of the rules of Covid. Where one person would need to be in the hospital, another person can have the hospital come to them. That’s privilege,” said Lakshman Swamy, an ICU physician at Cambridge Health Alliance in Massachusetts.

If it's been given to only ten people, I don't want to be one.

Count me as one that is very skeptical that he ever had it.

I dunno Mark, in order for Trump to successfully pull of that kind of hoax, an awful lot of people would have to be cooperating to keep the secret.... Plus the potential for it to backfire is too great (i.e., he says he has covid and subsequently takes a huge hit in the polls because nobody likes a sick president).

That kind of stunt is completely imaginable, but in this case, I do think he actually caught the virus.

He's had moments of coughing and labored breathing that I don't think he's faking. That and the fact that his doctor has been issuing written updates rather than speaking in person. They pulled him off the podium right after he spilled a few beans about Trump's condition that he wasn't supposed to.

But I had the same thought mark did.....

I don't think the doctors at Walter Reed would go along with it.

I would hope not. But his doctor Sean Conley sure seems to be knuckling under, at least at some level.

All of these doctors are caught between the devil and the deep orange sea.....

My brother is a dentist.
If he were a doctor he would do anything to help Trump.
I think Trump's hand picked doctors would do the same.
Maybe he has it. Maybe he lies.

FIFY. Conley is a "doctor of osteopathy". He is a DO, not an MD. Lower standard, and their background focuses on prevention, not treatment. Many people consider them in the same category as chiropractors.

I assume he was chosen for that position for his loyalty to Dear Leader, not for his credentials.

There are a lot of D.O.'s here in Oklahoma. My understanding is that the professional standards aren't lower, it's just that the typical quality of the school is lower.

But I do tend to pick M.D.'s over D.O.'s.

The irony to me is the anti-abortion anti-socialism president got drugs made from aborted children FOR FREE.

And no one batted an eye because they're so used to it now.
