Should add "accommodations" to the thread title.

From our electricity provider:

quote:
Voluntarily suspending service disconnections for customers who cannot pay, and waiving new late payment charges, through at least May 1, 2020. We understand that many of our customers may experience a financial strain due to the slowdown in the economy related to the pandemic. The last thing we want our customers and communities to worry about at this stage is whether they will be without power.

Offering our most flexible payment arrangements and energy financial assistance as a result of COVID-19. We are prepared to work with every customer on a case-by-case basis to find payment arrangements and identify the best fit out of the many energy-assistance options ComEd has available.

It's not much, but it's something.

Los Angeles DWP is doing the same.

I'm not sure what Edison and SoCA Gas (my utilities), or Anaheim Public Utilities are doing.

I just emailed my insurance guy to see how this is all going to work.

If a crewman gets hurt working on a job in Orange County, will my insurance company turn down the claim because working in Orange County is now illegal?

Governor just shut down all of PA except for "essential services". That predictably included closing gyms. Frowner

It was a real upper today when the exercise equipment tech I scheduled for a house call two weeks ago (after my stairstepper failed) proved able to fix it on the spot! I was reconciled (at best) to having to wait weeks while critical parts were sent out, so this is an unexpected bonanza.

I miss not only the cardio fitness but the fellowship and encouragement at the gym (exercise machines too - was really getting in shape) but at least now I can resume my daily endorphin fix. Those of you addicted to exercise will know what I mean. Had really gotten my resting pulse down.

Since this is the only strenuous form of exercise I'm able to do since my spinal op (can't bike or run, or even really walk outside or on a treadmill), it was important! I was having trouble keeping motivated on my keto diet without it. Somehow it all hung together.

I've added "accommodations" to the thread title.

Several chains have added special shopping days/times for seniors. Albertsons, Whole Foods, Target are among the ones I've seen.

Check your local stores to see what they might be offering.

They've rescinded the order, calling it "confusion".

Not an order to shelter in place.

State of Nevada just went "shelter in place". Casinos are closing.

Wow.

[edit]: How does "shelter in place" work if you live in a hotel?

General Motors, Ford and Fiat Chrysler to temporarily close all US factories. Pressure from unions, apparently.

Welp. We knew it was coming and thumbs-up to them for doing it now without waiting until the last minute.

We're online for the rest of the semester. Commencement is canceled or delayed until later in the summer, with some possibility that we'll do something virtual.

Supervisors are instructed to work out telecommuting with the staff as much as possible. Student workers, who were overlooked in the last email, are to telecommute.

It's a good plan. They're doing a good job.

Interesting to hear how different parts of the country are reacting.

Our library sent out an update today. I was not surprised to see cancellation of library programs through the beginning of May.

Keep your books, movies and other library materials. All book drops are now closed. Due dates have been extended to April 15. Fines will not accrue while the library is closed.
The library building, drive-up window, bookmobile and drop boxes, remote and onsite, are closed.
All library delivery services are not operating during the library closure.
All library appointments scheduled through March 29 are canceled.
All library programs through May 11 are canceled.

Oh, well, I knew it was coming but hoped we'd get in one last Shabbat Service.

Just got email moving it to a virtual format. Attendance was low last week so we could sit spread out. I missed the "Oneg" afterwards too = shmooze and eat donated pastries after the rabbi goes through the ritual Kiddush and Challah blessing.

We had it coming. Didn't hear of any other religious services NOT going virtual, so...I WAS wondering anyhow if we might be contaminating the prayer books (no word on virus transmission on paper, and if so how long it lasts. Anybody heard?)

Le'Haim! And tomorrow evening,! Good Shabbes!
Just hoping I can figure out how to interact with the Zoom program. Is it just a straight live broadcast, or is it back and forth? Likewise, can it be (is it usually) Face-Timed?
