The threshold into another impeachment inquiry (if not crimes against humanity) would be if the WH has in fact pressured companies to withhold equipment from a state. This needs to be investigated promptly by Congress. The Michigan state government should also be assembling evidence.

Not sure where she read it, but Mrs pj said he’s sending large quantities to Florida. Gotta secure those swing states, y’know, and take care of his peeps around Mar A Lago.

New York and Colorado, not so much.

Meanwhile, LA got a shipment of broken ventilators from the stockpile.

This is beyond unconscionable.

I don't think it would be the UN, more likely the International Criminal Court (ICC).

I wouldn't hold my breath.

Nope.

And on another note...the NY quarantine is a dead issue, but now we kinda know where the idea came from..

Fvcking unbelievable, coming from the guy who wouldn't shut down Florida beaches.

quote:
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Saturday said he would support plans by President Donald Trump to quarantine New York City in an effort to stop the spread of Covid-19 in Florida, saying the city's still-operating subways have become a Petri dish for the virus to spread.

DeSantis said during a news conference livestreamed from the state Capitol that he spoke with Trump earlier Saturday about a new type of virus testing that provides results in minutes. Trump then brought up the topic of quarantining New York City.

“My issue is, whatever works,” DeSantis said before quickly expressing frustration about New Yorkers who he said were evading shelter-in-place restrictions by coming to Florida.

“How is it fair to them to just be air dropping in people from the hot zones, bringing infections with them and seeding the communities with new infections that they’re trying to stamp out?” DeSantis said. “I just think it’s bad policy to have people dispersing from there, and then seeding in other parts of the country, including the state of Florida.”

“We might not have to do it, but there’s a possibility that sometime today we’ll do a quarantine — short-term, two weeks for New York, probably New Jersey, certain parts of Connecticut,” Trump told reporters.

DeSantis has already sent the National Guard to screen New York passengers at seven Florida airports. The guardsmen direct each passenger to self-quarantine for 14 days and take information that’s handed over to local authorities for follow-up. And the Florida Highway Patrol is now setting up a screening checkpoint on Interstate 95.

“You can’t go to a state park because you may transmit COVID-19, but you can have one of these super-spreaders, sneezing and coughing for two hours and then just get off and that’s fine," DeSantis said. "It’s just absolutely ridiculous."

Florida guy doesn't want the cruise ship to dock there, either.

quote:
The Florida governor, Ron DeSantis, has said passengers on a coronavirus-stricken cruise trip cannot be “dumped” in his state, casting further doubt over where two vessels carrying hundreds of people will be allowed to dock.

Four people have died and dozens of people are sick with flu-like symptoms on the Zaandam cruise ship, which is currently traveling towards Florida after passing through the Panama canal with its sister ship – the Rotterdam – where asymptomatic passengers have been moved.

On Monday, DeSantis told Fox News that many of the people on board were “foreigners” that he did not want to see “dumped” in his state, adding that he was in contact with the White House about the approaching vessels.

The health of passengers and crew has worsened in the past week after several Latin American countries refused to let the Zaandam into port, with 189 people sick with flu-like symptoms as of Monday morning. Two people tested positive for Covid-19 onboard last week and four have died, although the causes of death are not known.

More than 1,200 passengers from the UK, the US and other countries have been confined to their cabins for over a week, with 73 guests and 116 crew members on Zaandam having reported influenza-like illness, according to the operator Holland America Line.

DeSantis told Fox New on Monday: “I mean, I think a lot of these are foreigners. We’ve done a really good job of working to clear hospital space. I think we have almost 33% of the beds are available right now, particularly in south Florida where we have set up field hospitals in case we get a surge.

“We cannot afford to have people who are not even Floridians dumped into south Florida using up those valuable resources. So, I’m in contact with the White House on this, I’m in contact with the local county officials in both Broward and Miami-Dade. But yes, we view this as a big, big problem and we do not want to see people dumped in southern Florida right now.”

Governor DeSantis’s comments add to the opposition in Fort Lauderdale, where Holland America, the company managing both ships, had previously said they would attempt to dock.

On Sunday, Fort Lauderdale’s mayor, Dean Trantalis, said the ships can only be accepted if strict protocols are followed.

“No assurances have been given that they will be escorted from the ship to either a treatment facility or placed in quarantine. This is completely unacceptable!” he wrote on Facebook.

No, not really. If the Dems win in November, the impeachment issue is moot, of course. If the Democrats do win, then it becomes a set of related criminal investigations starting from the bottom and working their way to the top.

Criminalizing policy decisions is not the easiest thing to pull off in our legal system, and the political payoff of beating a hopefully dead horse may not warrant the costs in time and resources consumed.

Personally, I would love to see a lot of criminal investigations that put a lot of this administration's back room people in the dock. Imagine if there is an email trail of Stephen Miller telling people to send broken ventilators to LA, and stiff Michigan to harm its Democratic governor.

We might learn something from criminal investigations, and the lessons taught might finally shake Republicans into some semblance of conscience. Then again, I doubt it. Most will simply see investigations and prosecution as banana-republic actions of the winners. They will claim that Democrats are simply Latin American-style victors intent on retribution, and express smug conviction that criminalizing politics harms "America." Conveniently ignoring how the GOP may have completely broken America over the past four years.
