of an avalanche next to the interstate I use when I ski Copper Mountain.
It blocked the bike path, which is not very busy today.

Snow on the rail does not include what fell or blew off.
Tried to snowshoe the sidewalk. Snowshoes sank in the snow that went well over my knees.
So I quit and had gelato.

The snow on the railing on the west side is higer and still growing. Have never seen it like this.
In 2003 I70 was closed for three days. Tourists were freaking out. They could not leave. The supermarkets were running out of food when it finally reopened.

A larger avalanche near the one shown above covered the interstate about 20 minutes ago. Cars were covered.
Accidents from Dotsero to east of the tunnel had already closed the interstate.

Locals are celebrating.

Somehow the avalanche caused some cars to be high centered. It took two hours to get them going and to get the road cleared.

Must be a good one.

The town was named after a vice president named Breckinridge.
When Breckinridge sided with the south(I think), the name was changed to Breckenridge.
