In case this reference is obscure...

The reason the writer of the above piece has a New York Times to publish in is because the billionaire Carlos Slim Helu swooped in and saved it in 2009.


(Like the billionaire Jeff Bezos did to the Post a few years later.j

We have a growing advantage in space because billionaires have created a private industry that is producing spacecraft that are more effective and more efficient than the Soviet-style NASA can develop (SLS). By Soviet-style I mean three things: bureaucratically and politically ossified, wedded to giganticism, and addicted to cost overruns.
