"Only ethnic Chinese or Chinese descendants are accepted in this competition."

I guess that leaves me out.

"Its purpose is to provide Chinese from around the world with a platform to exchange Chinese and Western cultures and art."

Chinese pianists playing music by dead white guys. To be an "exchange," I'd think you'd want to hear some Chinese composers too, and maybe some non-Chinese contestants having to play them.

Ax, I think you changed the thread title since I posted, to note the "only Chinese" part.

Hmmmm... Thinking how a contest like this would go over in the US... ONLY IRISH NEED APPLY, or I suppose how about a British contest (since they invented the concept of race to begin with) only white race pianists allowed. You must only play Persian Santoor music only from one of three ancient composers of Persia.

How long would the contest last?

And I agree - all playing DWM music is very funny!

Kinda strange ... there doesn't seem to be a shortage of ethnic Chinese who play music of DWMs. Confused

Maybe the organizer doesn't want someone like Adam Golka to come and snatch the gold medal away again. Big Grin

One usually excuses (or explains) race-exclusive events with affirmative action type rationales. Chinese pianists hardly need exclusionary forums to succeed. The only discrimination they may (or may not) face is the occasional reverse affirmative action for the dwindling population of non-Asian pianists.

Are we supposed to be able to read that website? Big Grin I feel so inferior....

I do think it's ironic that they are trying to encourage Chinese pianists to play DWM music. Like p*d noted, the last several times I've been to a piano competition, LWMs were in the distinct minority.

Is this contest for "Chinese" (citizen) or "Chinese" (ethnic) pianists?

There's somewhere on the first page that you can click on "English" and proceed from there.
