Lucky guy!

Were it not for Rubinstein, I'm not sure I would ever have played the piano or developed a love of music. When I listen to recordings of his, I still marvel at what he was able to do. Incredible guy.

I think it's wonderful that this competition was developed - some pretty outstanding talents have emerged from it as well.

How was the competition, bach? How'd the local boy do?

Edit: Well, that's one way to make a decision, I suppose. Boy, how would you like to be told at the end of all that, "Sorry, not good enough."

I am not bach, neither Bach... but I did write to another forum a report about the competition as soon as it was over that Thursday night.
The URL you have above does sum it up and here is the competition's site too:
http://www.arims.org.il/competition2008/pages/english/index.php
Here is my report:
Roman Rabinovich and Ching Yun Hu shared the 2nd prize, no first was given.
Roman won a number of extra prizes within the competition and made a lot of money....
Tonight's finals were on radio, TV and the Internet.
I heard tonight Roman's performance of Prokofiev PC #3, it was just great.
I also heard the other 2 concerto performances.
Ching Yun Hu also did a great job on the same Prokofiev #3 (she played faster than Roman did...) and also received extra prizes..
Khatia Buniashvili played Brahms 2nd and got lost a little in the first movement.
She received the 3rd prize + some other extra prizes too.

From the competition's site:

The Winners are...
* 1st Prize - No First Prize was awarded
* 2nd Prize - shared by
- Roman RABINOVICH and Ching Yun HU
* 3rd Prize - Khatia BUNIATISHVILI
* 4th Prize - David FUNG
* 5th Prize - Irina ZAHHARENKOVA
* 6th Prize - Inesa SINKEVYCH
* Best Performer of a Classical Concerto
- Roman RABINOVICH
* Best Performer of Chamber Music
- David FUNG
* Pnina Salzman Prize for the Best Performer of a Chopin piece
- Khatia BUNIATISHVILI
* Best Performer of the Israeli Composition
- Roman RABINOVICH
* Encouragement award to a young Israeli Competitor
- Roman RABINOVICH
* “Audience Favorite” Prize
- Ching Yun HU
* The most outstanding Israeli Competitor
- Roman RABINOVICH
* Isrotel “Audience Favorite” Prize
- Khatia BUNIATISHVILI

A side note: On March 21, 2004 Roman Rabinovich performed in a recital in Philadelphia my composition "Rhapsody in Blue and White", along with pieces by Haydn, Ravel, Schubert and Schumann.

Best regards,
Rami
