Hammer rail - note how plush. Is this why the Ibach is so much quieter than my Grotrian?

ah, i want to hear more about this. my grotrian's action has become increasingly noisy.

my tech was here a couple of weeks ago and it actually bothered him (he's usually the one telling me that whatever bothers me is normal).

he did a series of experiments to locate the reason for the noisy action and could not find one.

we had at first thought it was the knuckles. but softening the knuckles made only an insignificant improvement.

g, do you think it is the hammer rail? and is there anything to be done on the grotrian to quiet it down?

maybe you can do some experiments on this for both of us.

i played an ibach 7'er at beethoven's a couple of years ago. it was unquestionably the finest piano they had on the showroom floor at that time.

darrell fandrich told me the ibach is his favorite scale design. very sad that they are no longer in production. someone should recreate it.

g, how are mrs. g's eyes doing these days? has she gotten tendonitis yet from rolling them?

Big Grin

It would be the end of my marriage if I put that in my apartment.

. . . so? . . .

So maybe you haven't had friends go through divorces. I have seen this process up close and it is not pretty. When that happens to you - you loose control of which piano you loose if only one and that is not a position I want to be in.

Big Grin

Otherwise I kind of like my family.

You know - very sympathetic once she understood we were replacing the piano. Even bought me an insanely fancy piano light! (I'm using it here though on my Grotrian as the other one has a lamp on a table behind it).

We played duets on the Ibach and I have to say I am a very lucky guy! She's soooo musical and we can read almost through the whole Ma Mer L'oye by Ravel and then we fall in love all over again.

(OK I'm making myself sick reading this)

yes, you are such a sap! Big Grin

i didn't realize she also played piano. you are very lucky. i have tried to persuade mr. pique to take up an instrument so we could play together, but he says he has just too many other things he wants to do with his time.

at least he enjoys listening to me play.
