My wife says to tell you that she agrees with you, BC...

As for the other question, does this answer your question?

And yes, I guess I need to do a sort-of biography of exactly just how I came to be me...

"In the beginning..."

No, I guess that won't be short and sweet enough.

Hey Mr. October!

I have drooled over the Tuscan Gem Shows online and one of these days would love to attend. Reminds me of the old antique shows at Brimfield (ma)

Have you ever scrounged there? Or do you have any advice? It sure could be overwhelming to a newbie but as mentioned above, I am an old scrounger at heart! I have many project ideas running around in my head and would love one really nice fossil, ammonites, beads for making jewelry, etc.

Next Feb might be the year for me!

Hi Lilylady...

The Tucson Gem and Mineral Show is everything (and a whole lot more) that you have heard. It's the largest gem show in the world... most hotels and motels are booked solid (and host many individual shows as well) and other shows are located in various locations around town.

The pictures you posted show some of the range of items that are available here... but represent only a tiny, tiny portion of the range of items available here. For instance, the photo of the people in the tent (the first pic) shows about 1/3 of a tent. This show is at the Holodome, and there are about 10 tents there that are open to the public... and maybe 25 to 30 tents in all at this one show. And there are dozens of them in town... from big ones like that one to one-room shows in many hotels and motels around town.

I would most definitely try to get reservations early... even now it might be too late. Unfortunately, most hotels and motels significantly hike their rates over this period.

But, having said that, if you can find a place to stay you can have fun and depending on your needs and desire, you can spend a not-so-small fortune here.

No layout so far... not enough room in my house. I'm in the planning stage for a modular one though, but so far I haven't decided on either On3 (which is what the K-27 that I posted the picture is) or HO (I've got a completely different one in mind for that...)

Thanks Bill,

Maybe we can meet up if I go.

I just checked flights and right now they are about $250 which is reasonable. What isn't, is that there are no direct flights and the earliest timing is 7.5 hrs. UGH.

And I have been checking out a few hotels. I see that most do hike their rates but found one with 2 queens and local ( I think it is a best western).

They no longer have their free bus service though I see, since the new highway is complete. I am hoping to do public transportation and maybe stay 15 minutes out of the hub bub to keep the rates down. Anyway this one is about $70 a nite and others seem to start around $120. Maybe their site is not up to date.

So...do you attend each year? How often?

I like to do early shows not the big main event on the last weekend which is full retail.

Any more advice and help would be great!

And if there is anyone else here wanting to go and share a room - I am interested!

when is the gems show? i just started beading and it looks like heaven for a jewelry maker.

if too late this year, could try for next year.

ll, that is not a very long time to fly to that location from where you are, at all! ten hours is pretty common. and $250 for a plane ticket is the deal of the decade. grab it and look for a place to stay on priceline.

Pique,

Of course it's too late for this year... the gem show here is in February (less than 4 months from now) and YES, there are several bead shows during the shows run that are part of it.

And yes, it is really heaven for a jewelry maker. While being in the business will allow you access to shows that are not part of the public shows, in reality there are so many public shows it really doesn't matter.
