Daniel, I'm not much of a jewelry hound. No engagement ring, but I have a wedding ring I love. We found it the weekend before we got married in a small shop in Cape Cod. It is a simple gold band with a white gold stripe on both edges and three small diamonds inset that was made by a local goldsmith. In spite of its simplicity, it's the single most expensive piece of jewelry I've ever owned and probably ever will. JF was very sweet to splurge at a point when both of us where pretty broke.

Our taste in art has a lot in common, although I'd add Renoir on to the list right away.

That play list looks rather familiar, but there are a couple of names that I'll have to look into.

I'm curious now what you do to follow this act (and I hope we meet IRL sometime).

Dang, I always come to these WTFer of the Month threads when they are up to 7 pages, and so I don't read them. And I haven't read this one either.

But I'm happy to have met both jf and kk, and nicer people you couldn't hope to meet. I heartily endorse their monthlihood. ThumbsUp

Kathy, very beautiful! Jim and I talk about it, and he, and I, I have to say, very often consider that we might just do the one ring for me, and, yes, I expect that if that is the case, it will be the most expensive piece of jewelry that I will own. I'm OK with that. Smiler

Actually, I made of list of reference numbers from Cartier's site and called them, I think, you know, having looked at all of the jewelry on the planet, and I expected their prices to be high (of course) but I was (pleasantly) astounded! The white gold charm (we're only talking about a charm) shaped like the Egyptian god Horus, with diamond pave, turquoise face, one emerald eye, and, as far as I can tell, one ruby eye was $24,000! I mean I knew it was going to be expensive, and I was only calling for kicks (I thought that piece was going to be between 5-10k), but those prices made me laugh. I think there's something to be said for women (and men) who refuse to "upgrade" as they call it, their engagement ring and even their wedding ring (that is so thoroughly wrong to me) and for women (and men) not endlessly burdening their spouse, civil union partner, or partner (there, I think I've covered all the bases) with requests for jewelry. It's expensive (and this is my thinking) I don't find those women (and men) who seem to be always wanting something else/ different/ and more from their spouses et al to be cute. Thanks so much for showing it to us! Again, it's very beautiful!

Thanks, Jack. My father wore a ring, but when my parents divorced, my mother ended up in possession of it (which is the only reason I know this), and my stepfather has a ring, but he can't wear it to work. He's an electrical contractor. There are too many situations when it would be dangerous (that is my best guess of his thinking on it). I enjoyed the pictures too. I always think the picture of your son at his graduation should be entitled, "I'm on top of the world." Well, as I said earlier, your family is very handsome. Thanks again, to both of you. Excellent thread. I've thoroughly enjoyed it.

LOL. Jim and I were talking about this thread and he told me he had put 2 and 2 together. My bad.

As an aside, I hope he will take even more of an interest in my hobby and actually start posting himself. We shall see.

I'll send you that PM, Jack. I'll do it now.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments. Al, I do also hope (and am sure) we will meet one day soon.

This has been a lot of fun. I must admit, it was really nice having a mate to do it with.

Well, just to punish you for not reading these threads, guess what? You are It, my friend. Big Grin

Your guess would be exactly right, Daniel. Rings and wrist watches are verboten when working around electrical apparatus because they increase the chance of accident and also can make any accident that might occur more severe. In the case of electrical workers, the possibility of shorting something and causing an arc is naturally a concern, but other trades usually discourage or prohibit things like rings, watches, neckties, loose shirt tails, and anything else that might get caught in operating machinery.

That is very interesting, Big Al, because honestly I just thought the danger was that the ring might become stuck in a saw, if he had the occasion to use one. I see now that it is much more than that. Thanks.
