Thanks. I chose those pictures for the home page of my elder law website. James worked the magic, but they're in .gif format which allows for the animation.

LL, I love the pic of your Mom with the camera...at Crane Beach maybe?

Actually Mom (about age 14) was up at Province Lake, where the family compound was. At that point I don't think the camp had even been built yet. I love the old camera. Wondered what she was taking a pic of since her back was to the lake!

Frycek -- we must be about the same age. The pictures of my parents are from 1944, and 1953 would have seen me about the same size as you are in that pic.

Interesting that so many of us don't have wedding pictures for our parents. I have just a couple snapshots -- no official ones were taken because it was just after the war and there was no money for a fancy wedding or a dress.

Jodi -- love the ocean photos of your mom.

Elena -- someone who really knew your dad must have taken that picture -- I love it.

circa 1985, taken at our wedding

My father is front row, second from right (next to the pianist) playing tenor sax. To the left of him is his brother, who also played sax and clarinet, and back row, far left is another brother, playing trumpet. This is circa 1952, at the USO Officer's Mess in Fort Pepperal, a former US Army base now known as Pleasentville, a neighbourhood in St. John's, Newfoundland. The band's name was the Princess Orchestra, thus the "P" on the music stands. This is the core of the band, but they often added guitarists and trombone. The repitoire was mostly Big Band music of the 30's and 40's. Growing up, I often woke up at home on Saturday morning's to the sound of Dad rehearsing for a gig. Note the mike stand to the far right. He had a sweet tenor voice, and was usually not shy about putting it to good use. He also usually introduced the band's numbers.

Actually I always thought she was the spitting image of her father as a baby, but recently she is starting to look a little more like me.

Luckily, I think she got the best of both of us!

Jamie,

I *love* that photo, and the musical legacy of your father and his brother! How wonderful to grow up in such a musical family.

These are so cewl. I love the musical pictures especially. I've got one of my dad somewhere, playing the violin.

But in the meantime, here's my mom at 14.

Here's my dad a few years before he died.

Here are my parents at a Christmas party shortly before they married--probably 1956.

Here's their wedding picture, August 1957.

And here's the four of us in January 1979.

For comparison's sake, my father and Cousin Matt's father were fourth cousins, once removed. I'm not sure the resemblance is apparent in these photos, but I do think his dad and mine had some facial similarities, despite being not-too-closely related. Genes are funny things...

Great pics, Mary Anna. I love those 50s dresses and suits, better than anything since. I guess I'm an old fogey, because looking at everyone's old photos makes me nostalgic for a time I liked so much better than our current "culture". I think that's the very definition of "old".
