rick was an extraordinary person and we were very fortunate to have known him, even if only virtually.

he wrote a most consoling message to *me* the day he learned he had only four months to live, to reassure me about my father's death.

he said that "dying isn't so bad. you think about how you love everything and everyone all the time."

then i had to drag it out of him how he knew this.

that was at the beginning of february. i think the flying spaghetti monster owes him (and all of us) one more month!

My condolences to all of Richard's family and friends.

I'm sorry to hear this news. Richard was my first waking thought this morning. I'm not much of a "believer", but he'd been in my prayers and was so again this morning as I thought about the value of a single day, considering it from the perspective he graciously had shared with us here.

Godspeed, Rich.

I spoke to Splinters this morning, she said Rick passed at home holding her hand.

I'm so sorry, Splinters. My heart goes out to you, though you're very far away. That is the odd and special nature of communities like this one. Distance doesn't mean so much. You have my deep sympathy for the loss of someone so special.

so special.. so young.

Gosh, I'm sorry, apple. How sad. It's awful to deal with at any age, but for the young, the wrongness of it cries out.
I send a prayer for you and her nearest to find consolation.
